Onze landgenote Charline Van Snick (universiade Bangkok) heeft op de Grand Prix in het Chinese Qingdao goud veroverd. In de categorie tot 48 kilogram klopte ze in de finale de Spaanse Oiana Blanco met ippon.
Dirk Van Tichelt (Universiade Bangkok, VUB) heeft op de Grand Slam in Tokio de bronzen medaille veroverd in de klasse tot 73 kilogram. Van Tichelt ging meteen sterk van start en schakelde de Canadees Nicholas Tritton uit met yuko. In de kwartfinales was de 27-jarige Van Tichelt met ippon te sterk voor de Nederlander Dex Elmont, maar in de halve finales moest hij zijn meerdere erkennen in de Rus Mansur Isaev.
Op de Grandslam in Tokio veroverde ook Charline Van Snick (Universiade Belgrado) brons in de categorie tot 48 kilogram. Na een reeks overwinningen verloor ze in de halve finale van de Japanse tweevoudige wereldkampioene Haruna Asami die later ook goud pakte. Ilse Heylen (Universiade Madrid), vrij in de eerste ronde, sneuvelde in de tweede ronde. Jasper Lefevere in de tweede en Kenneth Van Gansbeke in de eerste ronde werden eveneens snel uitgeschakeld.
The last Executive Committee Meeting in 2011, which took place in Cordoba, Spain on November 25 and 26, concluded with the presentation of the bids for the European Universities Games 2014 and its attribution.
Members of the Executive Committee were presented the reports of the inspection visits of the evaluation committee, performed in October by Mr Alberto Gualtieri, Mr Kemal Tamer and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik. The bidding cities: Wroclaw, Poland and Rotterdam, the Netherlands then presented their candidatures to host the 2nd edition of the European Universities Games in 2014. A draw decided on the order of presentation.
Both cities presented their cities, sport & accommodation facilities, reasons why they are bidding, and other details related to their candidature. The decision about the attribution of the bid was announced by Mr Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA President, after a vote of the Executive Committee M embers.
The host city of the European Universities Games 2014 is… …the City of Rotterdam!
After the announcement, Mr Gualtieri congratulated the organisers and thanked both cities for participating and bidding. Mrs Van der Meer Mohr thanked the EUSA Executive Committee for their decision and entrusted task. She also commended the bid of the City of Wroclaw, as a strong competitor.
Polsstokspringster Aurélie De Ryck (selectie Universiade Shenzhen) beleefde een moeilijke namiddag toen ze op de openingshoogte van 3m80 meteen drie keer in de fout ging. Ze moet zich mentaal herpakken de komende twee weken. De Universiade komt er immers aan.
Aanvoerster Lise Van Hecke (Selectie Universiade Shenzhen) scoorde nochtans 18 punten, maar tijdens de openingswedstrijd van hun reeks, bleken de Amerikaanse meisjes te sterk op het WK juniores in Peru. Ze versloegen de Belgische ploeg met 3-0 (25-21 / 25-18 / 25-16). In de andere poulewedstrijd won Korea met 3-2 van Polen. Vandaag spelen de Belgische meisjes tegen Korea. Hopelijk hebben ze meer succes.
